Streams Timeline: A Chronology of Asian and Pacific Islander American History
We know of no better way to convey the length of AAPI history than to have kids put events on a 44” long timeline!! Streams Timeline is perfect as a standalone tool for putting AAPI history into your classroom or homeschool, or as a companion to our Asian American history guides. Both Streams: Chinese American History for Kids and Streams: Korean American History for Kids have key events from that week’s readings and videos to place on a timeline.
This timeline starts in 1587 when the first Filipinos set foot on what is now California and continues to the present day. Major general events in US history are pre-printed on the timeline. A four page long list of key events in AAPI history is included for students to write in on the timeline. They can also put in events from a general US or world history course, or even their personal family history, to see more connections between events.
The timeline is lined to make neatness easy, and there are sections for events in different categories, such as “Arts/Culture” and “Science/Technology”. This is a digital download that can be printed at home, pasted on card stock and then taped together for a continuous 44” timeline. Alternatively, large format printing at a local print shop can produce a continuous timeline on a single sheet. Printing outside the home at a local shop costs between $6 and $23 in our locality, depending on the thickness of paper.
